Snowmobile conditions 12/20 – Just got off the phone with Groomer Driver Keith. He said they are grooming and trails are in fair shape and continuing to improve.
Weather: From 9 & 10
Snow has moved in for areas along M-72 and North this morning while areas towards Manistee, Cadillac, Houghton Lake, West Branch and South are dealing with snow/sleet/mix. Roads South of M-55 could be very slippery thanks to some ice accumulations. Be very careful in these areas this morning. Temperatures this morning are in the low teens to upper 20s with winds out of the Northeast at 5-15mph. Today will be a day of clouds with some snow in the U.P. while the Northern L.P. will see some snow showers with the heaviest falling in the Northeast corner towards Rogers City, Posen and Alpena areas thanks to lake enhanced snow. These areas could see up to 5″ of snow with some isolated higher amounts. The Central L.P. will be dealing with snow/sleet/ice which will create many travel hazards through the day. Highs today will be in the upper teens to low 30s with winds out of the Northeast at 5-15mph. Tonight will be partly to mostly cloudy with a few isolated snow showers in the Northern L.P. and isolated sleet/snow in the Central L.P. but everyone should be dry by tomorrow morning.
Saturday will be quiet with mostly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 20s to low 30s. Winds will be light. Sunday is a day to watch carefully and with the current track that this low pressure system is projected on Northern Michigan is NOT in for a major storm but again we will watch this closely. Right now this is how this system will break down. It will move into Northern Michigan Sunday morning and snow will be out there for everyone through the day with the heaviest of the snow falling for areas of the Northern L.P. and Central L.P. All signs are pointing to 3-6″ of snow with isolated higher amounts while the Eastern U.P. will see less amounts but it will be a wet and heavy snow thanks to the warmer moisture. Again this is not set in stone and we will watch this carefully. Highs Sunday will be in the upper teens to low 30s.
Monday will bring lake effect snow showers to Northern Michigan with highs in the low double digits to low 20s. Tuesday will start off with a bit of snow but skies will turn mostly sunny in the afternoon and evening. Highs will range from 10-20 degrees. Christmas will be windy and snow will ride in along a clipper system from the Northwest. Highs will be in the lower to upper 20s. Thursday will bring lake effect snow showers and highs in the mid teens to low 20s.
