XC Ski Headquarters: The ski conditions are wonderful! Groomer Butch set tracks and snow combed the Rolling Hills, Mackinaw Cut, Wild Turkey, Trapper’s Cabin, and Manitou trails yesterday with excellent results. Groomer Mike will snow comb those trails again this morning. Conditions are good for “A” skis. It’s almost too much fun!
Hanson Hills Recreation Area – Hanson Hills has a rich history of activity and controversy. Opened in 1929, it was the first downhill ski area in Michigan and the second to open in the Midwest. The “Snow trains” brought many people to Grayling where they would board flat bed trucks for the ride to what was then called the “Grayling Winter Sports Park”.
XC Ski Headquarters – Cross Country Ski Headquarters (XC Ski HQ) is a specialty cross country ski shop and premier Nordic skiing destination in Michigan and throughout the country. Named #2 Cross Country Ski Destination in North America by USA Today’s Reader’s Choice Awards in 2018, XC SKi HQ is most known for pristine ski trails, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and an outstanding selection of cross country ski equipment and clothing with top notch service.
Other places to ski include Hartwick Pines State Park (groomed) and many other natural areas such as the Mason Tract or Rayburn area and Wakeley Lake which may not be groomed, but almost always have tracks.
