XC Ski Trail Conditions 1/29/19
As I’m sure you know, it’s super cold, we have tons of snow and trails will be in excellent condition!
TV 9 & 10 Weather Forecast:
Today: Lake effect snow ramps up today along with gusty winds. We’re going to see bone chilling wind chills and “ground blizzard” conditions. Essentially our light fluffy snow with these gusty winds will blow and drift around, creating reduced visibilities and tough travel conditions. Lake effect will be heavy at times with highs ranging from 6 to 15 degrees. Winds come out of the South/Southwest at 8-18 mph but gusts will be around 25-30+ mph at times. This creates wind chills of -30 to -10 degrees and whiteout conditions in areas. Accumulations today will be around 1-3? with isolated higher amounts possible in spots.
Tonight: Lake effect snow picks up tonight thanks to gusty West winds. Some bands will be intense for areas in the Western half of the Lower Peninsula and Northern half of the Eastern U.P. Overnight lows range from -10 to 2 degrees with wind chills ranging from the -30s to -10s. Travel conditions will once again be very tough heading into Wednesday morning with whiteout conditions possible. Winds come out of the West for the most part at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph. Another 1-3? is expected with isolated higher amounts possible.
Tomorrow: Lake effect snow and cold continues for your Wednesday. Winds remain rather gusty which means more blowing and drifting snow and difficult travel conditions. Highs range from 0 to 10 degrees with brutal wind chills well below zero for mostly everyone. Frostbite becomes a concern!
Thursday: Thursday is looking similar to Wednesday but not nearly as cold. Highs range from 5 to 12 degrees with wind chills staying well below zero. Lake effect snow is out there once again slowly adding up over time. By Thursday afternoon spots across the Western Lower Peninsula and Northern parts of the U.P. could see accumulations of 5-10?, but again this is the total accumulation expected from Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning.
Friday & The Weekend: We transition a little bit Friday with partly sunny skies and isolated light lake effect. Temps will be in the 10s. Saturday is looking mostly to partly sunny with highs finally warming up into the low 20s to low 30s. Sunday sees the chance for some rain, mix and snow with highs getting even warmer reaching the low 30s to low 40s.
Next Week: Monday sees mostly cloudy skies and highs in the mid 30s to mid 40s. Late Monday night into Tuesday we are watching another potential storm system that is looking to bring rain, mixed and snow showers. This is something we will continue to monitor closely.
