XC Ski Conditions 2/3. Forbush Corner: Larry tilled the trails last night and he will be out this morning grooming and putting in the tracks. It should set up for some excellent skiing. It will be a little cold today, but temperatures are going to be in the high 20’s for the weekend. It is going to be some excellent skiing, get it while it lasts!
Hanson Hills: Tonight is the Start of February Winter Fun Days at Hanson Hills!! Downhill and Tubing Operations will resume from 3:30pm-9:00pm $1 Lift Tickets, $9 Rentals, and $5 Tubing Sessions!!!
Cross Country Trail Report: We received another dusting of snow overnight adding to our great base. Groomer Jason is out this morning with our tidd tech groomer, laying down fresh corduroy on all the skate lanes. He will be setting fresh tracks later this morning as well. A quick reminder for tomorrow morning, we will be hosting the Fun Promotions Fat Bike Series race on sections of our Cross Country Trails. All trails will be open for skier traffic (will be best for classic skiers), we ask that if you are skate skiing that you please give the right-a-way to bikers that morning. Please stop in to the ticket booth and we will inform you of the flow of the race course.
Fat Bike Trail: Will be groomed again today. Nice firm base, great riding!!
XC Ski Headquarters: Great conditions prevail on all trails, and yesterday was particularly beautiful with the sun shining almost the whole day. Ginzu Dana will groom all the trails this morning, snow combing the skate lanes and resetting tracks where needed. It will be another fantastic day of skiing, and this weekend is looking fabulous as well! We have a 10 to 12 inch base, with 18 to 22 inches of snow in the woods.
TV 9 & 10 weather:
This Morning/Today: Expect to see some lake effect snow at times in the Lower Peninsula today but accumulations will be light. Just an inch or two at most for some areas of the Northwest corner of the Lower Peninsula. The Skies will again be mostly to partly sunny if you aren’t in the snow. Highs will be in the mid teens to low 20s with winds out of the West at 10-20mph.
Tonight: We will see some lake effect snow for areas in the Northern half of the Eastern U.P. while any snow in the Northern L.P. will taper off and skies will be partly cloudy for most. Overnight lows will range from 2 to 15 degrees but feel much colder than that as winds will be out of the West at 5-15mph.
Your Weekend: Any lingering snow Saturday morning should end by mid day and skies will be mostly to partly sunny. Highs will be in the low 20s to low 30s! Some light snow might move into areas of the U.P. and Straits by the evening hours as our next system moves in Saturday night and Sunday. Scattered light snow showers move through Sunday with highs in the mid 20s to mid 30s.
* Next Week: We will see a chance for some light snow Monday with highs in the upper teens to low 30s but Tuesday and Wednesday could be 2 days to watch very closely. A very strong low pressure system will produce extremely strong winds and some heavy snow is possible. So with these winds, snow and cold air trying to move in we will have to watch the possibility for power outages, blizzard like conditions and overall major winter storm worries. Gusty winds, possibly heavy snow and highs in the mid 20s to low 40s Tuesday. Gusty winds and colder temperatures with some lake effect snow will be the worry on Wednesday. We will continue to watch this closely. -Meteorologist Michael Stevens
