XC Ski Conditions 3/27
Forbush Corner: March 26th, Wednesday, 1 pm, 21 deg F, 45% humidity, overcast. The polar vortex returned to The Corner this morning with -13 deg F temps. Cold nights and beautiful sunny days in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday. Come and join us for more great spring skiing !!! XC Ski Headquarters: Thursday, March 27, 2014; The snow groomed up beautifully yesterday. Nice fresh tracks were set and the skating lanes were like a magic carpet. We received a trace of snow last night and Ginzu Dana will start re-grooming all the trails at dawn this morning.
Depth of packed snow ranges from 7 to 19 inches (26 inches in the Blizzard X-C Ski Park where we make snow). Depth of unpacked snow ranges from 8 to 22 inches. Fresh Ginzu groomed excellent conditions for classic and skate skiing prevail on all 11. 5 miles of trails.
9 & 10 weather: Moderate to heavy bursts of snow are moving into Northern Michigan this morning with the heaviest of the snow falling along and North of M-55. Areas of the Northern L.P. and Eastern U.P. will be waking up to 1-3″ of snow which will make roads slick for your morning commute. Temperatures this morning are in the low 20s to low 30s and will only be on the rise as we work into late morning and afternoon. Expect slow travel this morning and at times through the day especially farther North through today and tonight. Today will be a sloppy, slushy and wet day across Northern Michigan. Snow will hang around the U.P. and Tip of the Mitt today while Snow will turn to mix and rain for much of the Northern L.P. The Central L.P. will see mainly rain this afternoon through tomorrow morning. Highs today will be mid 30s to mid 40s with winds out of the Southeast/South at 10-20mph. High impact areas will be the U.P. and Tip of the Mitt.
Tonight will be mainly rain/mix for the L.P. while the U.P. will see snow and mixed showers. Overnight lows will be in the mid 20s to low 40s with the warmest temps in the Lower Peninsula. Another 1-3″ with isolated higher amounts is possible for the U.P. while the Lower Peninsula won’t see much snow, if any at all, tonight. Friday will start off with a touch of snow/mix for Northern Michigan but skies will turn mostly sunny in the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will be in the low 30s to low 40s. Saturday will be mostly sunny with highs in the lower to upper 30s. Sunday will be mostly sunny and breezy with highs in the upper 30s to upper 40s.
Monday will be warm but clouds will be on the increase and rain will work in as the day moves on. Highs will be in the low 40s to mid 50s! Tuesday will bring some morning snow/mix but skies will clear for the afternoon and evening hours. Highs will be in the mid 30s to upper 40s. Wednesday will bring in the next potential system which will again hold snow/mix/rain showers and warmer weather. Highs will be in the mid 30s to mid 40s Wednesday.
