Teaching youth to fly-fish: the One Fly (Box) Challenge – The Anglers of the Au Sable is sponsoring an event to help young folks who are either interested in learning to fly fish, or already accomplished anglers.
The One Fly (Box) Challenge will be held at 9 a.m. on August 10th at Gates Au Sable Lodge. There will be free casting instruction, and volunteer “guides” to take youth and their families to the river for a couple of hours of fishing. This will be followed by a free barbecue, games, and prizes.
“This is just the right event for kids and young adults, as well as their families, to get in the water and go fishing with volunteers to help,” said Anglers Board member Josh Greenberg. “More advanced youth will have priceless time with guides.”
Participants must be under 18 years old, and will receive a free fly-box full of flies. Families are encouraged to attend and explore fly fishing as well.
There will be limited numbers of waders and fly-rods available for use.
Anglers of the Au Sable is a non-profit organization that is one of the leading coldwater conservation groups in the state of Michigan.
