AuSable River Canoe Marathon Entries – 75 teams have already entered the AuSable River Canoe Marathon that begins in Grayling, Michigan at 9pm on July 27, 2019.
Among the early-registered teams are racers from Florida, Texas, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, Alaska, New York, Maine, Iowa, and internationally from Canada and Australia.
The AuSable River Canoe Marathon is the roughest, non-stop canoe race in North America and reported to be the toughest spectator sport in the world. The race course runs almost the entire length of the AuSable River at 120 miles. Paddlers begin by running LeMans style, carrying their canoes on their shoulders, on Saturday, July 27 at 9:00 p.m. on Peninsular Ave near The Old AuSable Fly Shop with thousands of spectators cheering them on. Prior to the start of the marathon, the paddlers will be introduced, and live entertainment will be provided. The race ends Sunday, July 28 in Oscoda, MI on the shore of Lake Huron.

From their website : The AuSable River Canoe Marathon has been an annual event now for over 60 years. For one short 19 hour period, the race totally consumes the participants, inhabitants and spectators like few other events. Certainly, the start of this race is the most spectacular in canoe racing and is witnessed by the largest number of spectators of all Northern Michigan events.
At any time of year you may see racers in their slim C-2 canoes practicing for this granddaddy of all canoe races. But this unique river also offers year round pleasure to those seeking the solitude and serenity of one of the most beautiful free flowing rivers in the United States. “THE” river fits the cliche “It is many things to many people” and we thought the visitors to our site would enjoy reading what authors have had to say about the delights of the AuSable River.
