Build a Birdhouse at Hartwick Pines State Park – Building a birdhouse is quite simple really: a couple of slabs of wood, some nails or screws and you’re in business. But then again, there is much more to building the “perfect” birdhouse for the specific species you want to attract to your yard. For example, what diameter does the entrance hole need to be? How deep should the floor be from the top of the birdhouse? Come and learn about the finer points of birdhouse building at Hartwick Pines State Park. There will be blueprint plans for participants to take home and a brief discussion on the most important things to consider about attracting nesting pairs of black-capped chickadees, white-breasted nuthatches, house wrens, eastern bluebirds and eastern phoebes. Two programs will be offered at the Michigan Forest Visitor Center: 10am and 3pm. Program length will be about 45min with time for a question & answer period following.
