July 16 @ 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Wood Shaving Days is scheduled for July 15 & 16, 2023, 10am – 3pm each day. Wood carvers, blacksmiths and other artisans demonstrate how they make their crafts; steam-powered sawmill will be operating at Hartwick Pines State Park. There is no charge for the event, however, you must have a Michigan Recreation Passport on your vehicle to enter the park.

Wood Shaving Days is an annual event that takes visitors back to a “simpler” time. While some things may have been simple during the logging days, there are other things that were not so simple. Wood Shaving and Black Iron Festival teach you about some of the many crafts and skills people during this time in history, needed to know to survive. From whittling to running the steam powered sawmill to forging the tools necessary to cut the trees needed to build America, you will learn all about this and more!
