An event every day that begins at 10:00am, repeating until Sun, 22 July 2018
Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22 Wellington Farm, USA near Grayling will present its annual Quilt Show. Many antique quilts will be available for viewing as will quilts from area quilters. Several quilts from the Great Depression will be on display as will the “Wellington Quilt” which was created in 1910 and has the names of the ladies of Wellington embroidered in it. One quilt of particular interest is a quilt with the back made entirely of sugar sacks.
During earlier times, quilting was more a necessity than a craft. When pieces of clothing became so worn that they were no longer wearable, they were cut up and used for patches for other pieces of clothing and the scraps sewn together to make a quilt. The quilts were used as blankets to keep the family members warm at night.
Anyone who would like to display a quilt at the Wellington Farm Quilt Show is cordially invited to do so. Quilts to be displayed at the show should be dropped off at the farm no later than 4:00 p.m., Thursday, July 19. More information regarding the Quilt Show can be obtained by calling 989 348 5187 or email to firstname.lastname@example.org
During the Quilt Show, many of the craft shops on Crafters Alley will also be in operation. Basket makers, broom makers, weavers, and blacksmiths may all be working in their respective shops. At the Grist Mill watch as corn and wheat are milled into cornmeal and flour. View the world’s first dowel lathe and first belt sander at the Perry Lamkin exhibit and cover your ears as they blow the noon whistle on the 1914 Advance Steam Engine which may be powering the 1870’s sawmill.
Gates at the farm open at 10:00 a.m. and the last shuttle into the 60-acre living history complex leaves the Visitor Center at 4:00 p.m. Sunday hours at the historic farm are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with the last shuttle leaving the visitor Center at 3.
