Fall is in the air, The pumpkins are picked and piled by the catapults! On the weekends of October 13 & 14, and October 20 & 21, those pumpkins will fly at Wellington Farm, USA. Currently, the 60-acre living history farm has two very large trebuchets which they use to launch the pumpkins. Pumpkins will begin to fly at 10:30 a.m. each day. Subsequent launches will take place every hour on the half hour. The last launch of the day will be at 3:30 p.m.
In addition to “Punkin-Chunkin, the entire historical complex will be open. All buildings will be staffed by costumed interpreters. Shops on Crafters Alley will be in operation throughout the day. Cider and donuts will be available also.
Halloween Hayrides will be available at Wellington Farm, USA on October 26, 27 and 28 beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission to the Halloween Hayride is $5.00 per person. Preschool children are free. Several area businesses have chosen one of Wellington’s buildings to decorate for Halloween. Hayride participants will have the opportunity to vote for the best decorated building. Voting will be accomplished by donating to the kick-off-campaign for a new building at Wellington. The business receiving the most dollar votes will be awarded a prize.
Also at Wellington Farm is the Classic Comic Exhibit featuring newspaper cartoons from the Depression Era. Visitors can have their picture taken with Dick Tracy. Flathead and the Mole will also be there. There is no extra charge for the Classic Comics exhibit or the new Wellington Post Office exhibit.
Wellington Farm, USA is located at 6944 S. Military Road southwest of Grayling. The farm is easily accessed from either Exit 251 of I-75 or Exi206 of US-127. The historic park is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
