Civil War Reenactment
Wellington Farm USA near Grayling will open for the season on Friday, May 21 and, it will open with a “bang!” A really loud “Bang!” The noise will be from the firing of a Civil War era cannon for opening weekend at Wellington Farm USA will feature a Military Encampment, the large portion of which will be Civil War era. There will be at least three camps of Civil War soldiers and possibly other camps from other eras. Each camp will be demonstrating life as it was lived during the period of time depicted. Civil War camps will be demonstrating camp life, camp cooking, close order drill, musket drills and Company “D” of the Michigan Artillery will be demonstrating cannon firing
With special consideration for the health and safety for everyone, those people attending the Military Encampment will be given a time to enter the display. This is to maintain the social distancing that is recommended. Face masks will be required to enter any building. In addition to the camps and demonstrations, all buildings of the 60-acre living history farm will be open. Visitors can easily spend the greater part of a day in order to see and experience everything. .
Needless to say, the Corona Virus has caused many changes to be made at the living history farm near Grayling. Wellington Farm USA apologizes for any inconvenience the changes in programming may have caused. The ultimate goal of the 60-acre living history farm is to provide the best historical and educational experience possible while still keeping all visitors and interpreters safe. Current available staffing does not allow them to do that on a seven day-a-week schedule, therefore the park is closed Monday through Thursday until mid June when additional days will be added to the programming.
Wellington Farm, USA is located at 6944 S. Military Road southwest of Grayling. The farm is easily accessed from either Exit 251 of I-75 or Exi206 of US-127. Beginning May 21 the living history park will be open Friday and Saturday from 9 to 5 and Sunday from 10 to 4
