Things to do this Spring and Summer in the Grayling, Michigan area.
The Grayling area is a beautiful destination located in the “up north” area of Michigan. It is an approximate three-hour or less drive from the metro Detroit, Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and Flint areas. The region is well known for its scenic beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities. Whether you plan on coming for a weekend, a week, or an extended stay, let us introduce you to what we have to offer in the Spring and Summer seasons.
Birding: Michigan Audubon holds tours for viewing the threatened Kirtland’s Warbler at Hartwick Pines State Park.
Fishing: The AuSable and Manistee Rivers, both of which flow through the Grayling area, are well-known worldwide for their trout fishing. With clear water, a sandy bottom and no rocks or rapids, these are perfect rivers for fishing. Visitors can also fish in nearby lakes, including Lake Margrethe and Higgins Lake.
Canoeing and Kayaking: The AuSable and Manistee Rivers are also popular destinations for canoeing and kayaking. Visitors can rent canoes and kayaks from local outfitters and explore the scenic rivers, which are surrounded by beautiful forests and wildlife. Your trip can be a few hours or several days.
Golfing: Grayling has several golf courses that offer beautiful views of the surrounding landscape, including Forest Dunes with its nationally known courses, the Grayling Country Club and the Patriot Golf Club.
Festivals and Events: Our headline event is the AuSable River Canoe Marathon held every July. This 120-mile marathon draws hundreds of participants and thousands of spectators. Additional events include the Grayling Arts & Crafts Show, live music, and a food court, among others. Hartwick Pines State Park and Wellington Farm host several events throughout the year.
Lodging: There are over a dozen motels, lodges, and cabins to choose from in the Grayling area. Most are locally owned and operated.
Overall, Grayling, Michigan is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts, nature lovers, and anyone looking for a scenic getaway. With its abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities, beautiful scenery, and events, it’s easy to see why so many people choose to visit Grayling in the spring and summer.
