The Wellington Antique Tractor and Engine Club host their annual Tractor and Engine Show August 23-25. Tractors of all shapes and sizes will begin arriving at the 60-acre living history farm on Friday, August 23 and will be available for viewing throughout the entire weekend.
On Friday evening there will be a Tractor Safari. The tractor group will ride to a local food establishment for dinner and then return to the farm. Those wishing to participate should contact Wellington Farm for more information. Saturday and Sunday will be the big days with many events being scheduled for both days. Highlight of the day will be a big tractor and machinery parade each afternoon.
On Saturday evening, August 24 Wellington Farm, USA will present “The Wellington Farm Country Music Show”. If you like old-fashioned country music and corny country humor, then this show is a must. Presented on one of the most picturesque outdoor stages in Northern Michigan, the Wellington show is a full evening of very enjoyable entertainment. Price of admission for the Variety show is only $12.50 and tickets are presently available at the farm’s Visitor Center or by phone. Steel guitars sing, the banjos ring and Ezra and Ethel Frogmire banter at the Wellington Barndance.

Wellington Farm, USA is now accepting reservations for what has been billed as “The most unique Christmas Experience in Northern Michigan.” Billed as “The Farm By Lantern Light” the full evening activity includes a sleigh ride, a visit to the historic farm and a full length play all rolled into one. Seating is very limited so reservations are an absolute must. “The Farm By Lantern Light” will take place on December 13, 14, and 20, 21. The first performance begins at 6:40 p.m. with additional performances beginning every 20 minutes there after. Twelve people are admitted to each performance. The entire performance lasts about two hours. During the course of the evening, participants will board a horse drawn sleigh and be transported back in time to the year of 1932. Following the sleigh ride, visitors will stroll through the farm trails, all beautifully lit by kerosene lanterns. During the course of their walk, visitors will visit each building at the farm complex and in each building another scene of the play, will be presented. The play is based upon an event which took place in Wellington many years ago. Now that event has been woven into one of the most heart-warming Christmas stories presented anywhere in Michigan. Jack-O-Lantern Hayrides will offer visitors a ride around historic Wellington Farm Park, lit by Jack-O-Lanterns. Ghosts, witches, and other Halloween characters from the Depression Era will be making an appearance. The hayrides are scheduled nightly for October 25-30. $5 per person.

Saturday and Sunday, October 19 & 20 will be an exciting day at Wellington Farm near Grayling for that is the day that their monster trebuchet will throw pumpkins for the second time. This new siege machine designed and constructed by Roger Blackford, Maintenance Supervisor at the 60-acre living history farm. He was assisted by volunteer Ethan Brand. The monster trebuchet was actually constructed for last year’s ‘Punkin-Chunkin event but, the huge machine broke on its’ second test fire. Wellington Farm, USA opens at 9:00 a.m. and the first test fire is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. If all goes well, the trebuchet will throw pumpkins every hour on the hour throughout the day and again on Sunday, October 21. Price of admission is $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for students and seniors which is regular park admission. For those people who want to shoot the trebuchet, ammunition will be available for purchase. All money raised at the trebuchet will go towards the construction of a new museum building and a new store which will feature Michigan made art and craft work.
In addition to the operation of the monster trebuchet, all of the farm buildings will be open and some in operation, the farm’s shuttle will be running transporting visitors around the farm and cider and donuts will be available. In addition, the farm has a large quantity of pumpkins and winter squash available for purchase.

Wellington Farm’s new Monster Trebuchet which will go into operation on Saturday, October at the historical park’s annual Punkin-Chunkin event. The Monster Chunker was constructed by the farm’s maintenance supervisor and volunteers.

On Saturday September 21, Wellington Farm, USA near Grayling will play host to a Folk Arts Festival. The one day event will feature artists, musicians, authors and storytellers from across Northern Michigan. Wellington Farm’s outdoor stage is tastefully set in the heart of the beech/maple forest with wonderful acoustics.
The gates to Wellington Farm, USA open at 10:00 a.m. and guest performances will begin shortly thereafter. Be sure to bring a blanket or lawn chairs.
All of the Wellington Farm, USA historic buildings will be in operation during the one-day festival. In addition there will be artists, craftsmen, storytellers and musicians scattered about the park. A food concession will be available so families can plan on spending the entire day at the farm.
Admission charge for the Folk Arts Festival is just $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for seniors and students. Wellington Farm, USA near Grayling will play host to their annual celebration of Dairy Days on June 29 and 30. Dairy Days is the longest running special event to be presented by the 60-acre living history complex. It is also one of the most popular. During the weekend long presentation, visitors can watch as cream is churned into butter, milk and eggs are turned into custards and ice cream and skim milk is turned into cottage cheese, or smearcase as it was called during the Great Depression. In addition, there will be displays of cream separators, churns and milking equipment. On Saturday evening, June 29 there will be a Classic Country Music Show on the Wellington Farm Main Stage featuring Don Rivers and the Good Old Boys. There is no additional charge for the country music show; regular park admission will include the show. Admission is $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for seniors and students.
At 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 29 Wellington Farm will open a brand new building featuring a significant historical display. Known as the Perry Lamking Historic Display the new building will house the first belt sander and the first broom handle machine patented in the United States. Pictures, documents and hand tools will be included in the display.
Wellington Farm, USA is a living history park depicting life as it was lived in a rural, mid-western farming community during the Great Depression. Wellington Farm has been acclaimed as being the only living history park in the nation that portrays specifically 1932, the very worst year of the Great Depression. The park opens each morning at 9:00 a.m. and the first guided tour departs the Visitors Center at 10. The last tour of the day leaves the visitor center at 4:00 p.m. Beginning June 15, the farm will be open seven days a week. Also beginning June 15 the farm will be open on Friday and Saturday evenings until 7 p.m. with the last tour leaving the visitor Center at 5:30.

Wellington Farm, USA, a 60-acre living history complex near Grayling opened for the 2012 season on Saturday, May 19. Highlight of opening day was the opening of the new Broom Shop at the historic complex. Now completely equipped with all the tools and raw materials needed for the making of hand crafted brooms, visitors will find the shop open almost everyday and in full operation most weekends. Hand made brooms are now available for purchase at the museum gift shop.
In order for the Broom Shop to become operational someone had to be trained in the craft. To accomplish this, a member of the Wellington Farm staff spent two days at Shaker Village at Pleasant View, Kentucky training in the Broom Shop there under the supervision of Master Broom Maker Mark Ross.
Wellington Farm is an excellent family outing with 60 acres of farm and about a dozen exhibit buildings to explore. Visitors ride into the complex on the farm’s shuttle and are then guided through the major buildings by a trained docent. Wellington Farm depicts life as it was lived during the Great Depression, more specifically the year 1932. The farm is open weekends from 9 to 5. Beginning June 16 the historic site will be open 7 days a week. $7.50 adults, $5.50 students & seniors.

Spring is in the air! One sure sign of that is the annual Plow Day at Wellington Farm, USA near Grayling. On Saturday, May 5 members of the Wellington Antique Tractor and Engine Club will be arriving at the farm with their tractors. They will begin with coffee and donuts shortly after 8 a.m. after which they will begin plowing the fields which will be planted to farm crops later in the spring. Everyone is cordially invited to come and watch the plowing and roam about the farm free of charge. Some of the buildings may be open as workers are preparing the park for opening day which is set for May 19. A lunch will be available at noon. Tractor owners who are not members of the club and would like to bring their tractors are more than welcome to do so. Several new items will be added to the 60-acre living history complex this year including the opening of the Broom Shop, the Perry T. Lampkin Historic Display and a new jungle gym for the goats. The farm’s gift shop and museum will be open on May 5.

Residents of Northern Michigan are cordially invited to attend a free visit to Wellington Farm USA near Grayling on May 6, 2012. Included in the event will be a free pancake brunch. Doors at the 60-acre living history farm will open at 10:30 a.m. and the first tour will depart the Visitors Center at 11 a.m. Additional tours will depart every 20 minutes for the remainder of the event. The last tour will be at 2:20 p.m.
Wellington Farm USA which depicts life as it was lived during the Great Depression has often been referred to as Northern Michigan’s best kept secret. Others have referred to it as the “Greenfield Village of the North”.
