The 3rd Annual AuSable Valley Recreation Expo will call attention to the many outdoor recreational opportunities available throughout the Grayling area. Expo attendees will see fly tying and fishing demonstrations, among others. Exhibitors will include makers of canoes and kayaks, geocache, clothing stores and clothing manufacturers, campgrounds, habitat restoration, and trail riding. In addition to exhibits the Expo will offer a full schedule of informative and interesting presentations, May 14 & 15, 2011.

This year, the expo will be held in a new venue – the Hanson Hills Recreation Area. Its lodge and acreage will allow for more outdoor exhibits and demonstrations.

SATURDAY May 14

10:30-11:30: Geocaching 101.

11:45-12:45: Enhancing Riverfront Property.  Ryan Reichle, Huron Pines RC&D

1-2: Digital Photography 101: Tips to Improve your Digital Photos. Tom Haxby

2:45-3:45: An Introduction to Mountain Biking and Bicycling. Bob Smith, The Bicycle Shop.

4-5:  ATV Safety, Rules and Regulations. John Chad, safety instructor

Outdoor Demonstrations throughout the day:

  • Campfire Cooking with the Boy Scouts

SUNDAY May 15

8am-10am: Birding at Hartwick Pines State Park. Craig Kasmer (Meet at Hanson Hills and Drive to Hartwick Pines to go birding at different locations at the park. End at Visitor Center.)

11-12: Cooking for Backpacking and the Outdoors, the Leave No Trace Way. Rob Burg from Hartwick Pines State Park

12:15-1:15: Disc Golf Demonstration. Justin Andre from Hanson Hills

1:30-2:30: Golfing and Putting Tips. (from Fox Run Country Club)

2:45-3:45: The effects of Logging on Northern Michigan Rivers. Rob Burg
