On this roughly two-hour, three-and-a-half-mile hike, participants will follow a guide along the AuSable Trail, take in the beauty of spring migration and hear (and hopefully see) a variety of warblers, sparrows and thrushes.
NOTE: Hikers should wear comfortable shoes, since the trail is not paved.)

Effective Oct. 1, 2010, the Recreation Passport will be available to Michigan residents for $10 per registered vehicle, or $5 per registered motorcycle.  This will replace the resident state park and boating access site stickers.  By checking “Yes” on your registration form, Michigan residents will realize a 58 percent savings in exchange for a full year of unlimited access to all Michigan state parks and boating access sites.  This money will help support Michigan state parks, boating access sites, state forest recreation programs and local parks.

For more information about the Recreation Passport, visit www.michigan.gov/recreationpassport.

Hartwick Pines State Park is rich in scenic beauty and different habitats. The principal features of this park are the 49-acre forest of Old Growth Pines, the Logging Museum and the Visitor Center. Inside the year-round, fully accessible, 1,500-square-foot Visitor Center exhibit hall, visitors will find dioramas, hands-on exhibits and a talking “Living Tree” that tell the story of “Michigan’s Forests … Its Past, Present and Future.”

A self-guided tour takes visitors on a journey through time that begins with the Ice Age and ends with a look at how Michigan’s healthy forest lands of today are growing annually at a rate greater than what is harvested. Six interpretive areas focus on different aspects of the forest.

From 11:00 – 11:40 a.m. on Saturday, Expo attendees can learn all about the Crawford County Air Terminal and how it opens a new portal for visitors to this area to access the outdoor recreation opportunities here.  The air terminal facility will also provide an opportunity to learn to fly for those who dream of “slipping the surly bonds of earth.”  This presentation will take place in the Birch Room, Ramada Inn-Grayling.  Presenter Stan Prevost is a commercial pilot and instrument flight instructor, and also is a member of the Crawford County Airport Board which oversees the Crawford County Air Terminal, a new general aviation facility at McNamara Field.
